About the role
The Head of Shipping is responsible for leading and managing the overall shipping operations to ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of products to customers. They will oversee the development and implementation of shipping strategies and processes, manage a team of shipping professionals, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Comprehensive Shipping Strategies:
• Analyze the company's business goals, target markets, and customer requirements to develop integrated shipping strategies • Establish short-term and long-term objectives, key initiatives, and action plans to achieve on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction targets • Ensure alignment between shipping strategies and the overall supply chain management plan • Regularly review and adapt strategies based on market trends, customer feedback, and performance data
- Lead the Shipping Team to Achieve Operational Excellence:
• Oversee the shipping team in order processing, carrier selection, shipment tracking, and customer communication • Set clear performance goals, provide coaching and mentoring, and monitor progress to ensure the team meets their targets • Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture within the shipping department • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity
- Manage Shipping Carriers and Logistics Partners:
• Select, evaluate, and manage shipping carriers and logistics partners based on their capabilities, reliability, and cost-effectiveness • Negotiate favorable rates, service level agreements, and terms with carriers • Monitor carrier performance and address any service issues or delivery delays • Explore opportunities to diversify the carrier mix and optimize routing to reduce costs and improve delivery times
- Oversee Shipping Operations and Technology:
• Implement and maintain shipping processes, systems, and technologies to enhance efficiency, visibility, and accuracy • Ensure seamless integration between shipping systems and other supply chain management tools • Analyze shipping data, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and make data-driven decisions • Implement measures to minimize shipping errors, damages, and returns
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
• Work closely with sales, marketing, and customer service teams to understand customer requirements and ensure a seamless customer experience • Collaborate with procurement and inventory management teams to align shipping strategies with inventory levels and procurement plans • Provide input on product packaging and labeling to optimize shipping efficiency and reduce costs • Ensure compliance with relevant shipping regulations, customs requirements, and company policies
- Manage Shipping Budget and Resources:
• Develop and manage the shipping budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources • Analyze the return on investment (ROI) for various shipping initiatives and reallocate resources accordingly • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to improve the overall efficiency of the shipping function • Provide financial reporting and recommendations to senior management on budget and resource allocation
- Hire, Train, and Develop the Shipping Team:
• Recruit, onboard, and retain top talent for the shipping department • Implement comprehensive training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the team • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and accountability within the shipping function • Regularly review and optimize the team's structure, roles, and responsibilities to align with evolving business needs
Requirements
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience within the shipping & marine ecosystem. • Minimum of a university degree in any discipline from a reputable University. • Certified in Supply Chain Management (CSCMP) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) is plus • Proficient in using shipping management software and tools • Experience in managing and leading a team of shipping professionals • Experience in developing and implementing successful shipping strategies and processes • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and collaborating with stakeholders
