Head of Risk

The Head of Risk is responsible for leading and managing the risk management function within the organization. They are accountable for identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring all types of risks that could impact the achievement of the company's strategic objectives. The Head of Risk serves as a strategic partner to the executive team and Board of Directors, providing risk-related insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making.

1. Risk Identification and Assessment

• Establish and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework to systematically identify, analyze, and evaluate risks across the organization • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify emerging risks and changes to existing risks • Prioritize risks based on their likelihood and potential impact • Collaborate with business units and functions to ensure risks are identified and assessed at all levels

1. Risk Mitigation and Control

• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to reduce risks to an acceptable level • Ensure that appropriate risk ownership is assigned, and risk owners are accountable for managing their risks • Monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation actions and controls • Provide guidance and support to risk owners in developing and executing risk mitigation plans

1. Risk Monitoring and Reporting

• Establish key risk indicators (KRIs) to monitor the organization's risk profile • Regularly monitor and report on the organization's risk exposure and the effectiveness of risk management activities • Prepare risk reports for the executive team and Board of Directors, highlighting key risks, risk trends, and risk management performance • Ensure timely escalation of significant risks and issues to appropriate decision-makers

1. Risk Culture and Awareness

• Promote a strong risk management culture throughout the organization • Develop and deliver risk management training and awareness programs to build risk management capabilities across the organization • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on risk management to business units and functions • Foster a culture of open communication and transparency around risks

1. Risk Management Governance

• Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management • Collaborate with internal audit, compliance, and other control functions to align risk management activities • Represent the organization in external risk management forums and industry associations

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Enterprise Risk management, Operational Risk etc. • A professional qualification such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is mandatory • Minimum of a university degree in risk management, finance, business, accounting, management, or related field from a reputable University. • Experience from Professional Services firm is an added advantage • Experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and strategies • Experience in collaborating with executive teams and Boards of Directors on risk management matters • Experience in leading and managing teams of risk professionals • Thorough understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management • Understanding of the organization's business model, industry, and strategic objectives • Knowledge of risk management software and tools • Strong understanding of risk management, internal control and corporate governance framework(s), financial services, treasury/portfolio management, investment/treasury operations, Process Improvement • Good knowledge and practical experience of financial theory, valuation, projection, financial modeling, financial markets and instrument valuation
