About the role

The Commercial Director is responsible for leading all commercial activities within the roofing business division. This role focuses on driving revenue growth, ensuring profitability, and maintaining strategic alignment with the overall business objectives. The director will oversee business development, client management, financial performance, and team leadership to achieve sustainable business growth and market leadership in the roofing industry.

Key responsibilities

1 Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute comprehensive commercial strategies aligned with company goals and objectives. • Lead the roofing business division in achieving revenue targets and market penetration goals. • Identify new business opportunities, market trends, and competitive threats to adjust strategies accordingly.

2 Business Development

• Drive business growth through effective market positioning, customer segmentation, and product/service differentiation strategies. • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion initiatives. • Lead negotiations and manage contracts with key clients, suppliers, and strategic partners.

3 Financial Management

• Develop and manage the roofing business unit’s annual budget, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded. • Monitor financial performance metrics such as revenue, profitability, and cost management. • Implement financial controls and risk management strategies to mitigate business risks.

4 Team Leadership and Development

• Build and lead a high-performing commercial team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. • Provide mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and career growth. • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews to drive accountability and achievement of objectives.

5 Market Analysis and Insights

• Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape in the roofing industry. • Utilize market insights to develop actionable strategies and recommendations for business growth and innovation. • Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes that may impact business operations or market dynamics. 6 Operational Oversight • Project management: Ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget. • Quality control: Maintain high standards of quality across all projects. • Safety management: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. 7 Marketing and Branding • Marketing strategy: Develop and implement marketing plans to enhance brand visibility. • Promotional activities: Oversee promotional activities and campaigns. • Customer insights: Gather and analyze customer feedback to improve services. 8 Customer Relationship Management • Customer satisfaction: Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service quality. • Issue resolution: Address and resolve customer complaints and issues promptly. • Client retention: Develop strategies to retain key clients and improve client loyalty. 9 Innovation and Growth • Product development: Lead the development of new products and services. • Market expansion: Identify and pursue opportunities for market expansion. • Competitive analysis: Monitor and analyze competitor activities and market trends. 10 Regulatory Compliance • Legal compliance: Ensure all business activities comply with relevant laws and regulations. • Risk management: Identify and mitigate business risks. • Environmental compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and sustainability practices.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior commercial or business development role within the roofing industry. • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, or a related field.

• Certification or training in project management (e.g., PMP) and/or safety regulations. • Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring high-performance sales and marketing teams. • Track record of successfully executing commercial strategies and delivering measurable results in revenue growth and profitability. • Experience in strategic planning, market analysis, and competitive positioning. • Strong network of industry contacts and relationships with key stakeholders. • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex business environments and drive organizational change.
